I’ve had Uponor Pex A in my house for 5 years, in Las Vegas with very hard water. I recently put in a water softener, pre sediment, triple purpose filter and UV filter. My house currently reads zeros on a 17 part drinking water test strips made on 4/22/24. Zero Chlorine, zero Bromine, zero fluoride etc. However I did open a few walls to see if my pex A rings had any signs of yellowing. The few I checked, did not.

Thanks for sharing this info Joe. I'm about to start construction on a new large home for a client. He prefers that I use copper. Cost is not an issue, but everyone is telling me to use Pex. And it would be much easier - especially since this is rammed earth construction (24" solid exterior and 14" solid interior walls) and running pipe either in the ceiling and down a larger PVC tube in the walls or PVC pipe with Pex fed thru those larger pipes. Copper would be much more difficult, obviously.

I bought my clear pex a pipe at my local plumbing store. It was the 3/4 ". . It seemed very stiff- it didn't flex enough to make connection between two "pipes" 18". I did get it to fit and made a secure leak free connection. Next time I will use a swivel NPT fitting. SO MY QUESTION IS _IS ANY BRAND NORE FLEXIBLE THAN ANOTHER? the 1/2 " PEX A seems very flexible . I did use a heat gun -didn't help. "homeowner - no plumber available"

I appreciate your vids and insight, but I think it’s odd to assume the new clear pipe will fail in the same manner the old did. If they’re having a liability nightmare why would they just change the color and nothing with the process/material? You claim they fail from break point chlorination, but do you have any lab reports indicating this is the most likely cause of failure? Any fracture or chemical analysis performed? Did uponor say it was break point chlorination? With all due respect, I think they’re going to be the closest to knowing actual root cause of failure being they’re paying claims left and right for this failure. Would love if you could share those in a video. Companies are incentivized to create robust products, or liability/claims/brand image will lead to bankruptcy. All the best

I bought my home in 1986. It already had been repiped with CPVC and across my attic partly. I live in north Florida. That pipe is still up there. I have never had an issue with it. I think I’ll just leave it alone.

Only a problem with harsh water left sitting in pipes then used immediately unfiltered. People in major cities with good water quality that use their water often, especially if they use something like a water filter before drinking it, won't have a problem with this. We know this because copper pipe is ubiquitous and copper poisoning is not. Furthermore, it's normal to have trace amounts of copper in our diet so our bodies have mechanisms for handling it, unlike microplastics that we recently needed to deal with.

Zurn is too "unreasonable" and restrictive in only warranting their pipe/products if installed by a professional.

A confusing video, at best. You spent 5 minutes cutting up pieces of pipe and holding them up to the camera before giving us a clue as to what your point was. Are you saying that this only applies to Uponor pipe? Only old Uponor pipe? Other brands of pipe? You like Zurn PEX B, what about other brands of A and B? I have a water well. Does that mean I'm in the clear since my water is not chlorinated?

I re-routed my plumbing with garden hoses. The thread makes it easy so you don’t need any clamping/crimping Basically you just screw everything in together and use drop ears for 90° turns.

Is it just a pex-a issue? I assume Pex-a is much safer being fed by a well. Zero chlorine…

I 100% totally agree with you.... I am offering people that have wirsbo pipe in their homes a 2 cubic foot back washing carbon filter that we install before the water softener to take out all the chlormines and chlorine in the water..... I think that this is a preventitive measure that could extend the life of the plumbing system

Glad I still use PEX B

This week we are re-plumbing our house. To warm the pipe before expanding we heat microwave rice heating pads 3 minutes each. We place the rice heating pads in a cooler bag to take down to the crawl space. The heat will last an hour or two. I keep a thermometer in the bag to know when the microwave heating pad gets to cool. If I do not have a microwave handy I figure on carrying a thermoses with hot water for a heat source.

I have installed some of this in my home and it’s been in there for over six years. After seeing this, I am going to replace it. I just put some in my cabin and my son told me about the issues, I am replacing currently. I am a licensed plumber as well as my son.

I searched up Zurn Pex B, as he recommended it in the video and comments. The first video that pops up is him talking about Zurn PEX-B failures. This is the only guy I’ve seen talking about Uponor PEX-A failures after months of casual researching different PEX applications and brands. Is he just making these videos for views and ad revenue or what?

3/30/24 is there any expansion PEX A manufacturer out there where I do not have to worry about material quality or quality inspection or lack there of provided by the co or manufacture before the material hits the market ? I feel like I just watched a video advising us viewers to use Zurn expansion PEX B over uponor due the inner deterioration of matl via chlorine & anomia . I think the only solution is to go back to copper. At least we know BEFORE hand what’s expected.

What about pex a? What brand should be used?

We have poly-b here but our water is soft and pure, unlike American water which has so much crap in it , it just clogs up your pipes. Fix your pollution problems and even crappy poly -b pipes are as new as the day they were installed 30 years ago. End of story.

Thanks much for the information. A material failure lawsuit should be the same lawsuit. We call it a joinder because whether it's by the joint or the middle of the pipe, it's still a material failure. I'm only a paralegal, which is sort of like a plumber's apprentice two or three years in, so I'm probably just as confused as you.

I am in San Jose, Ca., Northern California. NO plumbing supply have Zurn pex B nor fittings in stock. It has to be order from Southern California. not good. very frustrating!

You gave zero reason why Zurn PEXb is supposedly better than Uponor PEXa. Complaining that Uponor doesn't upgrade its tubes every year like Apple does its iPhone is not one.

Interesting. I purchased my house about 7 years ago. When it was repipled, I had it redone with Upenor-A (if I recall correctly). It was done with all white, and a home-run configuration. I will have to check all my connections next time I am in the crawl space. Got it will be a pain to redo if needed.

Notice how does not show the inside diameter of the Zurn fitting. The Upanour inside fitting dia. Is the same as the the pipe ‘s inside diameter. This is why it must be expanded to fit . Thus, with the Upanour Pex A there is NO flow restriction!

So, what's the best material to repipe?
